When you visit Sjölinds Chocolate House you might notice a small 5 car parking lot to the east of our building. For 15 years it was the parking lot of Mary Jane Ellis and Moonhill Mercantile. She was always so generous sharing her parking lot with us. When she moved her store a couple of blocks down Main Street (next to Duluth Trading Co.) we realized that we might not get such a patient neighbor next time AND my husband, Chris Thompson, needed a larger studio space than our basement could provide. Sommer House Arts was born as the perfect solution. Not only does it provide us with extra parking and studio space, it also has space for a gallery where Chris shows some of his own work and the works of local artists.
Recently shown artists include: Russell Gardner, Jean Lind and the poetry of Jeanne Wright. The last show was the Mount Horeb Area High School students, which we hope to have as an annual event. Now, Dick Ainsworth will be showing his inspiring photographs.
The gallery is open Saturdays 10:30- 4:30 and Sundays 10:30- 3:30, as well as "whenever the lights are on."
